A turnoff onto the SS73 will take you in the direction of Anghiari, a well-preserved medieval hilltop town built on a steep gradient with an interesting square of noble palazzi added outside the city walls in the 16th century. There are a few churches of interest: the medieval Chiesa di Sant’Agostino and the sixth-century Chiesa di Santo Stefano (one of the oldest in the region) at the foot of the hill. But the most important attraction is the Centro Documentazione della Battaglia di Anghiari. This is a documentation center about the Anghiari battle which, immortalized by Leonardo da Vinci, took place between the Milanese and the Florentine armies in 1440.
